Renewable energy

At Canopy, we focus on producing a clean, efficient, and sustainable energy.

Our low-carbon or carbon-free projects include the production of biofuels, renewable energy, and waste recycling.

Biofuel is any kind of fuel that is directly derived from plant or animal matter, also known as biomass, and produces bio-energy. There are various types of bio-fuels (wood, biodiesel, biogas, …). Just like wind or solar power, bio-fuels are a renewable source of energy.

From waste-to-energy processes to bio-oil, Canopy explores the opportunities, as we believe energy is a major issue to address in human beings’ resilience and adaptation to climate change.

Biofuel production

  • Fañako

    Fañako: Pongamia oil production

Canopy has launched a large scale agro-forestry and afforestation project in Eastern Madagascar. This 5 500 ha project focuses on the Pongamia tree that is particularly well adapted on damaged or infertile soils. Pongamia fruits are also an opportunity to produce bio-oil to replace kerosene that is largely used in Madagascar.

  • Paraguay : Pongamia oil production

Canopy invested in the development of a Pongamia plantation project in Paraguay, along with other investors. This pilot project has been up and running for a few years. This large scale reforestation project also intends to produce biofuel with the Pongamia oil.

Waste-to-energy

  • CGG (Compagnie Générale des Granulés) : waste-to-energy

Canopy Energy and its partners developed and invested in a pellets factory in Cameroon. With a capacity of producing 50,000 tons of pellets per year, this factory only uses wood waste and sawdust that would have been burned by the nearby sawmills.

Solar energy

  • Solar Energy in Cameroon

Thanks to a strong expertise in solar plants development, Canopy Cameroon offers a tailored service for businesses, municipalities or individuals who wish to equip their homes with solar panels and improve their overall energy efficiency.

  • Hybrid Solar mini-grids for rural economic development

The project aims at demonstrating the sustainability and the viability of a solar based rural electrification business model, which is designed for enhancing the economic growth of rural areas in the South of Madagascar.

  • Large-scale Solar Projects

Canopy has been developing large-scale solar projects for 15 years cumulating over 300MWp in Corsica, Spain, Burkina Faso & Madagascar.
