CGG: waste-to-energy

Canopy Energies and its partners developed and invested in a pellets factory in Cameroon. With a capacity of producing 50,000 tons of pellets per year, this factory only uses wood waste and sawdust that would have been burned by the nearby sawmills.

This factory in Cameroon has established a three-steps process to transform wood waste into cleaner energy, which unfolds as follows:

It starts by the collection of wood residues from legal and sustainable sources in partnership with the CGG.

These residues are revalued and transfored in a new source of energy that is less polluting

Finally, the wood pellets are produced through a special process ensuring their durability and calorific value.

Environmental and Socio-economic Co-benefits

Affordable and clean energy.

The carbon emissions emited during the decomposition process of the wood pellets is fixed and does not lead to additional greenhouse gases, hence providing cleaner energy and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 ‘Affordable and clean energy’.

Climate action.

This renewable energy presents solutions to the climate crisis, by avoided new releases of greenhouse gases and allowing to keep the carbon stored. This clean energy hence addresses the United Nations’ SDG 13 ‘Climate action’.
